According to the ancient Egyptians, Isis is the Great Mother, Moon Goddess, Giver of Life and the Goddess Supreme. Isis is ruler of the moon, agriculture and protector of marriage. Unlike the other Egyptian goddesses, the goddess Isis spent time among her people, teaching women how to grind corn and make bread, spin flax and weave cloth, and how to tame men enough to live with them. Isis taught her people the skills of reading and agriculture and was worshipped as the goddess of medicine and wisdom. Her name literally means "Queen of the throne", which was portrayed by the emblem worn on her head.

There were festivals in the spring and autumn to honor her, but her most prominent celebration was the Night of the Teardrop in June. It is a night to remember the losses of Isis and her eternal mourning for her husband Osiris. It has been said that the priestesses of Isis could control the weather simply by braiding and releasing their hair. Isis was the patron of marriage, the moon, divination, motherhood, agriculture, protection, reincarnation, initiation, fertility, magic, purification and domestic life.
